Etiquette
The following rules are established to maintain a wholesome and
safe atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Courtesy and respect are an important part of the
martial arts and will be observed at all time by our students and instructors at
the ACMA. Profane language will not be tolerated.
- Please remove footwear before entering the training
area and place them in the shoe rack. Permission of an instructor is
required before entering or leaving a class in session.
- Students must maintain the highest standard of personal
hygiene, paying particular attention to short, clean and smooth finger and
toenails. Jewelry must be removed for safety. Please leave valuables
at home.
- Uniforms or workout clothing must be clean and in good
repair for every class.
- Senior students will help junior grades as much as
possible.
- Practice will not be undertaken while under a Doctor's
care and or while advised not to do so.
- Gum chewing or eating is not allowed during training.
- Only techniques presented by an instructor will be
practiced.
- Students are to utilize training time to the
fullest. Lounging in NOT allowed in the training area.
- A student (karate-ka) should approach and correct
those who are not abiding by these regulations.

This drill is commonly referred to as the "Ten Basic
Moves" and is performed on both the left and right sides.
#1 Right foot forward: Lunge punch middle (chudan oi-tsuki).
Repeat with left foot forward
#2 Right foot forward: Lunge punch high (Jodan oi-tsuki).
Repeat with left foot forward
#3 Right foot forward: Reverse punch middle (chudan
gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot forward
#4 Right foot forward: Reverse punch middle (jodan
gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot forward
#5 Right foot back: Left low block (gedan uke), reverse
punch middle (jodan gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot back.
#6 Right foot back: Left middle block (chudan uke),
reverse punch middle (jodan gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot back.
#7 Right foot back: Left open middle block (shuto chudan
uke), reverse vertical punch middle (jodan tate-tsuki). Repeat with left foot
back.
#8 Right foot back: Left open high block (jodan uke),
reverse upper cut punch chin. Repeat with left foot back.
#9 Right foot back: Left high block (jodan uke), reverse
punch middle (jodan gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot back.
#10 Right foot back: Left "bar guard" block
(hidari soto uke), reverse punch ribs (jodan gyaku-tsuki). Repeat with left foot
back.

For student safety & liability
reasons, KARATE SPARRING WILL ONLY BE AUTHORIZED WHEN UNDER THE SUPERVISION
OF A BLACK BELT INSTRUCTOR OR DESIGNEE. The purpose of sparring is to
utilize recognized punching, kicking & striking techniques learned in class
and applied during a controlled, match type situation with a fellow student
opponent. This is known as "kumite." There should
be no contact to the head area. Light contact is allowed to the
body. It must be understood, however, that karate is a physical sport and
controlled contact occurs during interaction between practitioners. The
following protective equipment must be worn during kumite; foam headgear, gloves
and foot pads, shin pads (cloth or foam) & mouthpiece. Males must wear
a protective "cup." PHYSICAL "HORSEPLAY" IS
PROHIBITED.
